We thank the Lord whom you serve for the great gift of motherhood. Never has it been known that anyone who sought your intercession was left unaided by grace. Dear Mother, intercede for all of our mothers. May they find daily strength to say yes to the call to the sacrificial love- the very heart of the vocation of motherhood. May their love and witness be a source of great inspiration for all of us called to follow your Son. On this Mothers day, Mother of the Word Incarnate, pray for us who have recourse to you... Between the May Crowning, May 7, and Mother's Day, May 14, the National Shrine Grotto will place a rose for each donation made online at the altar of the Grotto's Chapel. October 7, 2017 Reconciliation, 11 a.m. in the Confessional near St. Mary's Chapel Mass, 12 p.m. in St. Mary's Chapel The Handmaid of the Lord, the Virgin Mother of all the faithful, whose entire life is united in perfection and holiness to the Incarnate Word's mission of Salvation, returns again and again to us through the rosary, exercising her office as motherly intercessor, caring for her children, directing them always and everywhere to her Son. Ask for the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary ~ Light a candle to light your way to compassion! All Saint's Day
November 1, 2017 Reconciliation, 11 a.m. in the Confessional near St. Mary's Chapel Mass, 12 p.m. in St. Mary's Chapel Today the Church celebrates all the saints: canonized or beatified, and the multitude of those who are in heaven enjoying the beatific vision that are only known to God. During the early centuries the Saints venerated by the Church were all martyrs. Later on the Popes set November 1 as the day for commemorating all the Saints. We all have this "universal call to holiness." What must we to do in order to join the company of the saints in heaven? We "must follow in His footsteps and conform [our]selves to His image seeking the will of the Father in all things. [We] must devote [our]selves with all [our] being to the glory of God and the service of [our] neighbor. In this way, the holiness of the People of God will grow into an abundant harvest of good, as is admirably shown by the life of so many saints in Church history" (Lumen Gentium, 40). All Saint's Day Prayer Almighty ever-living God, by whose gift we venerate in one celebration the merits of all the Saints, bestow on us, we pray, through the prayers of so many intercessors, an abundance of the reconciliation with you for which we earnestly long. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. R/. Amen The Immaculate Conception
December 8, 2017 Reconciliation, 11 a.m. in the Confessional near St. Mary's Chapel Mass, 12 p.m. in St. Mary's Chapel Our Lady of Lourdes, your apparitions tell us so much about you. They remind us to reach out and help those in need. Help us to understand that our lives belong to those who are suffering and lonely. Help us to welcome them into our loving embrace like you did for Jesus. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception celebrates the saving work of God in preserving the Blessed Virgin Mary from the stain of original sin. Because of His foreknowledge that Mary would consent to bear Christ, God kept Mary free from original sin from the moment of her conception in the womb of her mother, Saint Anne. Ask for the intercession of the Immaculate Conception ~ Light a candle to light your way to compassion! Our Lady of Lourdes
February 11, 2018 Rosary, 10:30 a.m. at the Grotto Cave (Our Lady of Lourdes Rosary Crusade) Reconciliation, 11 a.m. in the Confessional near St. Mary's Chapel Procession, 11:30 a.m. from Grotto Cave to St. Mary's Chapel Mass, 12 p.m. in St. Mary's Chapel (All activities will be moved to St. Mary's Chapel during inclement weather) On December 8, 1854, Pope Pius IX proclaimed the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in the apostolic constitution Ineffabilis Deus. A little more than three years later, on February 11, 1858, a young lady appeared to Bernadette Soubirous. This began a series of visions. During the apparition on March 25, the lady identified herself with the words: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Enroll a loved one, to be remembered during this Mass celebration, asking Our Lady to cast a merciful glance upon your intention, one who may be suffering, struggling against difficulties. May our Mother's intercession to her Son, Jesus, grant hope and peace to your loved one. Ask for the intercession of the Immaculate Conception ~ Enroll your loved one in the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes Mass Ash Wednesday
February 14, 2018 (First day of the Lenten Season) Reconciliation, 11 a.m. in the Confessional near St. Mary's Chapel Mass, 12 p.m. in St. Mary's Chapel Ash Wednesday is one of the most popular and important holy days in the liturgical calendar. Ash Wednesday opens Lent, a season of fasting and prayer. The practice includes the wearing of ashes on the head. The ashes symbolize the dust from which God made us. As the priest applies the ashes to a person's forehead, he speaks the words: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return." All are invited to accept the ashes as a visible symbol of penance. Even non-Christians and the excommunicated are welcome to receive the ashes. The ashes are made from blessed palm branches, taken from the previous year's palm Sunday Mass. Palm Sunday
March 25, 2018 Reconciliation, 11 a.m. in the Confessional near St. Mary's Chapel Mass, 12 p.m. at the Grotto Cave The great event of the Annunciation reveals the path to salvation and to cultural recovery. The little Virgin of Nazareth teaches us how to live our real lives in a real world! When the Angel of the Lord appeared, bearing the message and calling her to a special mission, she said "YES." We must say "Yes" as well and believe that "nothing is impossible with God." Let's consider her response to the message: "I am the handmaiden of the Lord; let it be to me according to your Word." It is in these words that we discover the heart of the Christian vocation. A week later, Christ would rise from the dead on the first Easter. Good Friday
March 30, 2018 Observe the Passion of Our Lord Reconciliation, 10:30 a.m. in the Confessional near St. Mary's Chapel Stations of the Cross, 12 p.m. along the bronze Stations of the Cross on Corpus Christi Lane Homily of the Last Seven Words, 1 p.m. in St. Mary's Chapel Liturgy of Good Friday, 3 p.m. in St. Mary's Chapel (All activities will be moved to St. Mary's Chapel during inclement weather) Good Friday is the day on which Jesus Christ, having been betrayed by Judas and sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate, was crucified. On this day, Jesus died on the cross for us and saved us from our sin. Prior to death, Jesus spoke His last words, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Divine Mercy Sunday
April 8, 2018 Reconciliation, 10 a.m. in the Confessional near St. Mary's Chapel Mass, 12 p.m. in St. Mary's Chapel Holy Hour and Confessions, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Divine Mercy Chaplet, 3 p.m. in St. Mary's Chapel Among all of the elements of devotion to The Divine Mercy requested by our Lord through St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, the Feast of Mercy holds first place. The Lord's will with regard to its establishment was already made known in His first revelation to the saint, as recorded in her Diary. In all, there were 14 revelations concerning the desired feast. Our Lord's explicit desire is that this feast be celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. This Sunday is designated in "The Liturgy of the Hours and the Celebration of the Eucharist" as the "Octave Day of Easter." It was officially called the Second Sunday of Easter after the liturgical reform of Vatican II. Now, by the Decree of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, the name of this liturgical day has been changed to: "Second Sunday of Easter, or Divine Mercy Sunday." |
